Scotland Day 3/London Day 10... June 6th

Day 12…

Today was not near as eventful and as exciting as yesterday (I noticed that if I get excited I write like 50 times more, just imagine Ireland)
We had to leave Scotland this morning and on our way we ended up running into part of the rest of our group, mind you they didn’t come with us so it was extremely unusual. Benae and I were headed to Alnmouth, which is the train stop for the Alnwick Castle, or as most everyone else knows it Hogwarts.

When we arrived in Alnmouth we weren’t really sure where to go, but when we asked someone we found out we had to catch a bus. The bus station wasn’t far and we met this cute little girl and her mom. We talked to her and she told us where all the stops were that we should see in places like New Castle and York. When we got off the bus, we still couldn’t figure out how to get to the castle or the gardens. We were temporarily lost and hardly anyone knew what we were talking about, because we kept calling it the Harry Potter Castle J

Finally we made it, with our overnight bags that were extremely heavy, heavier then when we left, but the guy at the information desk that we bought our tickets from let us store our bags behind the counter (I think we are a bit too trusting of random people we meet).

Walking up to the castle reminds me of the Harry potter movie and them coming from Hagrid’s Hut. The Castle is as big as you think it is, and we were only able to see part of it because people are still living in it, which again means no picture, but I snuck some in J
We viewed the state rooms and the library…. Someday I will have a library like that, with books along every way, gold railing around the upper floor. The bean bags were still on the floor from the people living there and the couches were on the newer side, but the books were all old make the library have that old look while tying in the new! The molding in all of the rooms is elaborate, and a lot of the walls were covered in damask silk.

We explored the grounds after we did the state rooms and saw where Harry Potter first learned how to ride his broom. It is exciting to think I stood in the same court yard they did to film the Harry Potter movies. The stone work on the building varied in color, completely different from any of the other castles I have been to so far. The darker stones mixed with the lighter stones gave the castle more character.

Alnwick Garden Fountain

The gardens have this large water feature right as you walk in which is breath taking, and a tree house in the far distance which reminded me of the ones I stayed in organ once when I was little with my family because it was so big. Sadly I didn’t get to go inside of it or see it up close in person but it was beautiful.
We left in a bit of a hurry to try and catch our 158 train to New Castle, fortunately it was running late, but we had no idea and walked in every direction to try and find the bus stop to take us back to Alnmouth station. The buses and street signs here in all parts of England are not very easy to understand.

We took the train to New Castle and just got off quickly for a look around. The original plan was to stay there longer but sadly we had our bags which made us a little grumpy and tired. We originally got off there because I wanted to see the bridge, it is what the Sydney Bridge in Australia is based off, at least that’s what we were told. (People here in England tend to claim that the rest of the world copies them in a lot of things they do.) I didn’t get a chance to see the bridge because the next train came so quickly but we did get to see part of the city and their railings along the road had castles on them. Next time I am in England I am going to make it my goal to see everything I can there.
Our original plan was to also stop in York for an hour or so but we were too tired and ended up staying on the train. We met some nice people and one of them has family in Ireland and he was telling me all about it. People just keep confirming that I should live there someday soon, just wait till I actually go and confirm it for myself J
