Day 10…
Today was Incredible!!!
PLatform 9 3/4 Harry Potter
We headed to the train station extremely early this morning. But while we were waiting for it to arrive, we visited platform 9 and ¾, this was to start our Harry Potter side trip, at least that what I called it. We actually took pictures at the wall with the half ferry that was imbedded into it to seem like we were going through it.
The train finally arrived and Benae and I headed for SCOTLAND J The train ride was about 5 hours and we arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland. It took us a while to find our hostel but we are staying in the Caledonian Backpackers, totally not what I expected. The walls have murals on them of very modern day things, like cartoons of animals and skulls in bright colors. We checked in and went through like 5 different doors to get to Room G, where there are 38 people staying, men and women! We are in bunk beds, I of course have bottom bunk, and surprisingly everyone is pretty friendly and secluded.
Edinburgh Castle
On castle grounds Edinburgh Castle
And then off to the Edinburgh Castle… And for those who know me, seeing any castle is like a dream come true J The castle is in the center of town on top of this cliff that seems miles high. It was only a twenty minute walk, where we then bought our tour/entrance tickets and went in… Scottish people have the most amazing accent… She took us on a tour of the grounds of the castle and explained what each of the rooms we could visit was used for way back when, she even explained that the Dungeon still has the same smell that would have been there were prisoners actually down there, and boy was she right… it stinks down there!!! There were no picture aloud in a few of the rooms but overall it was exactly what I thought a typical castle would be… The views are amazing, and even with the chilling wind I still managed to get some beautiful pictures.
The Tartan Shop where it's all made
After the Castle we went into the Tartan shop, where they actually produce and make the wool into fabrics used for kilts, scarves, blankets and ties. The shop is a lot bigger then it appears and they makes hundreds of different Tartans for different clans. Benae ended up buying two blankets and they are completely made out of wool.
We went to dinner at this cute little place called Bell Italia. It has some of the most amazing Italian food I have ever eaten. And of course we went to Hard Rock Café for dessert and I bought another souvenir glass (goal is to have one from every country I visit before I leave.) We were told by some of the locals that Edinburgh tends to be where a lot of bachelorettes come for their bachelorette party, because we saw at least 3 different groups wearing all pink, or they had pink cowgirl outfits or boas. Perfect entertainment during our dessert!
We are sitting in the bar in our hostel writing our blogs and the people here are incredible funny. They are either playing some kind of bored game or drinking their drinks while singing out loud to American music, like P!nk or Nickelback.
